A. Kock and G. E. Reyes, Ordinary differential equations and their exponentials, Central European J. of Math. 4 (2006), 64-81
Vector fields or, equivalently, ordinary differential equations have long been considered, heuristically, to be the same as “infinitesimal (pointed) actions” or “infinitesimal flows”, but it is only with the development of Synthetic Differential Geometry (SDG) that we have the tools to formulate these notions and prove their equivalence in a rigourous mathematical way. We exploit this fact to define the exponential of two ordinary differential equations as the exponential of the corresponding infinitesimal actions. The resulting action is seen to be the same as a partial differential equation whose solutions may be obtained by conjugation from the solutions of the differential equations that make up the exponential. Furthermore, we show that this method of conjugation is equivalent, under some conditions, to the method of change of variables, widely used to solve differential equations.

Cet article expose une théorie synthétique des distributions (qui ne sont pas nécessairement de support compact). On compare cette théorie avec la théorie classique de Schwartz. Cette comparaison s’effectue par un plongement plein de la catégorie des espaces vectoriels convenables (et leurs applications lisses) dans certains gros topos, modèles de la géométrie différentielle synthétique.
Kepler arrive à Regensburg. Il veut clarifier sa situation financière et obtenir un nouveau poste. Une maladie se déclare, épuisé par des déceptions sans nombre, difficultés à publier ses oeuvres, manque d’argent, guerre, il n’a pas le courage de la combattre et meurt une semaine après son arrivée. Durant cette semaine, quelques amis le visitent et ses fantômes le poursuivent. Il revit la grande passion de sa vie: sa recherche incessante de l’harmonie divine donnant un sens à la vie terrestre.

Dans ses « Vies parallèles des hommes illustres », Plutarque met en parallèle les vies de Coriolan et d’Alcibiade. Shakespeare, un lecteur assidu de Plutarque, choisit le premier comme héros de sa pièce Coriolan. Shakespeare aurait-il arrêté son choix sur Coriolan à cause de la complexité du caractère d’Alcibiade? À la fin de sa vie, Shakespeare voit apparaître le fantôme d’Alcibiade qui le presse d’écrire une oeuvre de théâtre sur lui.

Abstract
This book is a “missing link” between the elementary textbook of Lawvere and Schanuel “Conceptual Mathematics” and the much more advanced textbooks such as MacLane and Moerdijk “Sheaves in Geometry and Logic”. The book introduces (and limits itself) to presheaves toposes, i.e., readily visualizable categories whose objects result from glueing simpler ones, the “generic figures”. Fundamental differences between toposes and the category of sets appear at this level already. Six easy to visualize examples accompany the reader through the whole book, illuminating new material, exemplifying general results and suggesting new developments. The book is aimed (via relevant examples) at a beginner mathematician or scientist or philosopher who would like to take advantage of the richness of presheaf toposes to prepare himself or herself either for further study or applications of the theory described.
